Remembering Suzanne Plaut

We mourn the passing of our long-time library director and dear friend, Suzanne Plaut.

Her tireless commitment to provide quality library access to our community is a legacy that will extend well into the future and benefit us all.

We will remember her welcoming smile and the open, accessible atmosphere she maintained in our library — a convivial place for learning, relaxing, meeting friends, solving problems, having fun. In short, everything a public library should be. And all accomplished with determination, a shoe-string budget and a dedicated cadre of friends and volunteers.

Let her memory be a blessing and a reminder of the great impact that one individual with spirit, commitment and joy can have on a community.

Lubec Library Native Plant Garden Under Construction

We have started a native plant garden-space!

It’s a work in progress…that we began last Saturday with plants from Maine Audubon’s Bringing Nature Home program, a hard-working handful of volunteers who planted them, and a timely delivery of mulch from Bear and Owl Tree Care.

Native plants support the local ecology by providing habitat and food for native insects, birds and butterflies. To get started we picked some native woody plants that like sun and dry, rocky soils and are known to be native to Washington County, Maine.
